In an apparatus specially constructed by Nikitin, the authors study the dissolution of zinc in hydrochloric acid; it proves that the pressure, increasing from the dissolution of zinc and the evolution of hydrogen, only slows down, but does not stop, the reaction. The reaction could be observed up to pressures of 1000 atmospheres.
