A group of physicists and chemists, united at the chemical laboratory of Moscow University, has undertaken the task, by publishing the “Bulletin,” “of serving, to the best of its ability, Russian chemical science by collecting information both on previously published and on the newest Russian books and articles on chemistry.”

Without claiming exhaustive completeness for the bibliographic information reported, the authors of the Bulletin give a list of works published in the journal of the Russian Physico-Chemical Society (chemical section) for 1916, and provide bibliographic notices on books, monographs, dissertations, and essays in a number of divisions: philosophy, general natural science, fundamental questions of physics and chemistry; history of chemistry, physical chemistry, inorganic chemistry, organic chemistry, analytical chemistry, physiological chemistry, and a number of technical applications of chemistry. The individual parts of the Bulletin have not been compiled with equal completeness, and, for example, in the department of “Physical Chemistry” only articles from the Proceedings of the Academy of Sciences for 1910–1916 are included, as well as works from the Notes of the Novorossiisk Society of Naturalists and the Scientific Notes of Novorossiisk University for 1909–1916, and papers sent to the editorial office. Although the Bulletin does not provide a comprehensive survey of Russian chemical literature, it is nevertheless a useful publication, making it possible to review certain parts of the extensive work of Russian chemists.
