K. F. Gauss, Theoretical Astronomy (lectures delivered in Göttingen in 1820–21, recorded by Kupffer), translated by A. N. Krylov. Published by the Main Hydrographic Administration. Petrograd, 1919.
Among the books in the library of the Main Physical Observatory, Academician A. N. Krylov succeeded in finding a manuscript belonging to the former Director of the Observatory, Kupffer, and representing a literal record of Gauss’s lectures. There is no doubt that such a record is an extraordinarily valuable memorial of the teaching activity of the famous geometer, and Russian scholars must be deeply grateful to A. N. Krylov, who has carried out the difficult task of translating the book, which may prove to be an excellent auxiliary aid in university teaching. The book, published by the Main Hydrographic Administration, may be ordered through the bookstore warehouse of the Naval Department (Petrograd, Main Admiralty).
