Modern physicochemical methods of chemical analysis are set forth in detail. Some of the articles are devoted to electrochemical methods of measurement; another part describes optical methods, up to the most recent work on magneto-optical analysis, with a critical review of these methods. A separate article briefly describes methods of measurement with electron tubes, which are at present finding ever wider application in physical and physicochemical work. Most of the articles include a short list of the relevant literature.
The book is intended for scientific workers; it may serve as a manual for students of higher educational institutions and technical colleges, and also for chemical engineers in factory laboratories.

The book is the second volume of Becker’s modernized two-volume Theory of Electricity, by Max Abraham, which went through several editions in German, and it examines the general foundations of electron theory, the elastically bound electron, and the equations of the electromagnetic field in media at rest. All obsolete theories have been excluded from the book; the theory of relativity is presented with the mathematical apparatus appropriate to it. Chapters have been written on the electron theory of metals, on the theory of magnetic properties of material bodies, and on equilibrium radiation.
