A. HAAS, Prof. Transformations of Chemical Elements.

The book under review by Haas arose from lectures delivered by the author at the University of Vienna and adapted for readers acquainted only with the most fundamental facts of physics. The book is divided into 5 lectures, which deal with the materialization of light, the new isotopes of hydrogen \(\left({}^{2}_{1}\mathrm{H}\ \text{and}\ {}^{3}_{1}\mathrm{H}\right)\), the methods and results of the artificial transformation of elements, and artificial radioactivity.

A. Haas is a great master of popular exposition, and in the book under review he has succeeded in selecting highly interesting material and presenting it in a readily accessible form. The book is interesting for the most diverse circles of readers: students, secondary-school teachers, engineers, and, finally, simply educated people who have not yet forgotten their school physics course.

A Russian translation of Haas’s book is highly desirable.
