The survey contains the most important general-theoretical works on the turbulence of the so-called semi-empirical school that have appeared over the past 10 years, as well as the earlier works of Reynolds, Boussinesq, and Taylor; the latter are given in brief exposition. The survey is accompanied by critical remarks and additions both by the author of the survey and by other authors, and is supplied with an index of the literature.

In the work, by the method of L. I. Sedov, the lift, resistance, and moment of a gliding arc of large radius are found. The velocity is assumed to be large.

The aim of the work is to integrate the equations of turbulent flow in a pipe according to Kármán, taking viscous friction into account. The results of calculations by the derived formulas have shown that accounting for viscous friction gives a negligible effect in the velocity distributions for large radii, even at small Reynolds numbers. This indicates
that at the basis of Mattioli’s theory there apparently lies a more perfect model of turbulent transport than at the basis of Kármán’s theory.

The work attempts to generalize the Prandtl–Kármán theory of turbulence of the boundary layer to the case of the flow of a compressible gas at high velocities and in the presence of heat transfer from the wall to the gas. The basis is the Prandtl–Kármán theory of the turbulent boundary layer and the Stodola–Crocco theorem on the linear dependence between the total energy of the flow and the velocity. Formulas are derived for the distribution of velocities and the law of friction in the turbulent boundary layer, taking into account the influence of the Bärstow number and heat transfer.

The author attempts to provide an explanation for a number of regularities in our solar system that have not yet received a rational interpretation. In particular, he tries to explain the distribution of masses within the solar system. He bases his argument on a modified theory of Lesage. The results obtained by the author, which are preliminary in character, mainly concern the determination of the dependencies of the following factors: the chemical composition and geometrical dimensions of cosmic bodies, the distances of the planets from the Sun and the chemical composition of the nuclei of the planets, the initial chemical composition of the masses from which the planets arose, the eccentricities of planetary orbits, the motion of the perihelia of planetary orbits, and the order of planetary evolution. In addition, the author proposes and substantiates the hypothesis of the existence beyond the orbit of Pluto of two more planets.
