THE BLOC OF COMMUNISTS AND NON-PARTY MEMBERS IS INVINCIBLE!

The Supreme Soviet of the USSR has been elected! The bloc of Communists and non-party members has won a brilliant victory. Candidates of the invincible electoral alliance of Communists and non-party working people of our homeland have been elected everywhere as deputies to the Soviet of the Union and the Soviet of Nationalities. 96.5 percent of citizens possessing the right to vote took part in the elections!

Today we publish the report of the Central Electoral Commission on the overall results of the elections to the Supreme Soviet of the USSR. Today we publish the list of deputies of the Supreme Soviet, people of the entire nation, elected to the highest organ of state power. On this list are the names of those to whom the working class, the Soviet peasantry, and the Soviet intelligentsia have entrusted the leadership of the country of victorious socialism.

These are the finest sons and daughters of the people themselves! These are workers, peasants, members of the intelligentsia, valiant soldiers and commanders of the heroic Red Army. These are members of the invincible party of Lenin—Stalin and steadfast non-party fighters for the happiness, freedom, and independence of our fatherland. Of the 1,143 deputies of the Supreme Soviet, 855 are Communists and 288 are non-party members.

Among the deputies are the country’s most prominent political figures, headed by Comrade Stalin, members of the Central Committee of the All-Union Communist Party (Bolsheviks) and of the Soviet government, a numerous detachment of local party and Soviet workers, talented economic managers, famous Stakhanovites of factories and collective-farm fields, remarkable aviators, scholars of world renown, teachers—educators of the young generation, people’s artists, and writers.

The deputies of the Supreme Soviet, elected with unprecedented unanimity by all working people, are genuine representatives, genuine chosen ones of the people, the spokesmen of its will, aspirations, and hopes. The composition of our Supreme Soviet shows in practice what socialist democracy means, what truly free and truly democratic elections mean.

The social composition of parliaments even in the so-called democratic countries eloquently proves all the limitations of bourgeois democracy, which in practice is democracy for the rich. The “representatives” of the English people in the House of Commons turn out to be nobles, admirals, generals, industrialists, and merchants. In the House of Representatives of the USA, more than half—

lawyers and trustees of capitalist trusts and enterprises.

This is what “popular” representation actually looks like in the capitalist world, the world of exploitation, the world of social and national oppression.

Only in our country, where the exploiting classes have been abolished forever, where there are no capitalists and landlords, only among us does the people freely elect, to all organs of state power, people who have come from its own midst, devoted heart and soul to the cause of the people, to the cause of communism. Only among us are the people and their deputies, the people and their government, united!

The Supreme Soviet is composed of people of the most diverse scales of political activity—from the collective farm to the entire state. All of them are united by a single thought, a single striving: to make our homeland still more powerful; they are faithful soldiers of the great army of fighters for communism.

In the supreme organ of the Soviet state there are representatives of the most diverse peoples, fraternally and freely united in the great, indestructible Union of Soviet Socialist Republics. Even the small peoples, in accordance with the Stalin Constitution, have elected their representatives to the Supreme Soviet.

To be a deputy of the Supreme Soviet of the world’s first socialist state, to belong to the iron cohort of Party and non-Party Bolsheviks to whom the leadership of a mighty, invincible socialist power has been entrusted, is an honorable and responsible matter. Every deputy must always feel the greatest responsibility before the people, before his voters.

There is no greater honor than the trust of the people. Every deputy must value this trust above all. He is a servant of the people. And his strength lies in the people’s trust in him. If only he turns aside from the path indicated to him by the people and the Party, he forfeits this trust.

In his remarkable speech at the pre-election meeting of voters of the Stalin electoral district, Comrade Stalin said:

“The voters, the people, must demand of their deputies that they remain at the height of their tasks, that in their work they do not descend to the level of political philistines, that they remain at the post of political figures of the Lenin type, that they be as clear and definite figures as Lenin, that they be as fearless in battle and as merciless to the enemies of the people as Lenin was, that they be free from every panic, from every semblance of panic, when matters begin to become complicated and some danger begins to loom on the horizon; that they be just as free from every semblance of panic as Lenin was; that they be just as wise and unhurried in deciding complex questions, where

“...need an all-round orientation and an all-round accounting of all the pluses and minuses, as Lenin had, so that they, too, may be as truthful and honest as Lenin was, so that they, too, may love their people as Lenin loved them.”

The image of the Soviet deputy drawn by Comrade Stalin is the image of a people’s representative of the greatest political and moral purity. The model of such a deputy of the Soviet people is Comrade Stalin! Stalin is the embodiment of wisdom, will, honesty, and steadfastness. Stalin is the banner of our victories!

The Supreme Soviet of the USSR has been elected. But the great upsurge that reigned throughout the country during the days of the election campaign and that reached its limit on December 12 continues. The announcement of the Central Election Commission on the election to the Supreme Soviet of Comrade Stalin, his closest comrades-in-arms, members of the Central Committee of the CPSU(b), and a whole galaxy of talented representatives of the working class, the peasantry, and the Soviet intelligentsia evoked universal national rejoicing.

On December 12 the Soviet people showed the whole world their moral and political unity, their unshakable devotion to the cause of the party of Lenin—Stalin, and their boundless trust in the Stalinist Central Committee and the Soviet government. The whole world has become convinced of what an indestructible force there is in the bloc of Communists and non-Party people. Let all imperialists who contemplate attacking the Soviet Union know that any attempt of theirs, like the attempt of their vile Trotskyist-Bukharinite fascist agents to harm the country of socialism, will be crushed in the bud by the iron bloc of Communists and non-Party people. The bloc of Communists and non-Party people is invincible!

The Supreme Soviet of the USSR has been elected—long live the Supreme Soviet of the USSR! Under the great, invincible banner of the party of Lenin—Stalin, forward to new victories of communism!
