The principal purpose of the first work (5–36) is to provide schemes for calculating rays through an optical system for use in the practical calculation of optical systems of instruments. The introductory and short preliminary sections are intended to facilitate the assimilation of the schemes. The introductory section considers the calculations of the zero, principal, meridional, and sagittal rays. Schemes for calculating an oblique ray and a number of smaller schemes are not included in the work. The second work (37–55) gives a classification of optical glasses, technical specifications, and tables of types of optical glass manufactured in the USSR (by the Lenzos and Izos plants) and in Germany (by the Schott plant).
