Improved Continuous-Action Wilson Chamber¹

The idea of the design of a continuous-action Wilson chamber consists in creating in it a continuous stream of vapor². In the previous designs of these chambers, a substantial drawback was the presence of spontaneous condensation of the vapor. This defect was eliminated by the fact that, in the new chamber, the vapor is obtained by heating the liquid in a special glass vessel by radiant heat from a source located above the vessel; this makes it possible to obtain vapor without condensation centers. In all other respects the chamber is similar to those described earlier. The vapor moves in the vertical direction as a result of diffusion from the upper heated bottom of the chamber to the lower cooled one. The total depth of the chamber is 100 mm, and the working depth in which tracks can be observed is 75 mm.
