The aim of the author of this scientific monograph was to show the influence of climate change on relief, vegetation, fauna, soil, and nature in general. The author defends the following basic ideas: 1) Over the last 2000 years it is impossible to detect a change in climate in the direction of a continuous decrease in the amount of moisture falling (“desiccation”). Rather, on the contrary: a certain humidification is observed, against the background of which climatic fluctuations of short duration occur (from 40 to 50 years). An example may be the recent warming, which lasted from 1919 to 1939. 2) The present epoch was preceded by a time with a drier climate, when steppes and deserts extended considerably farther north than they do now. 3) As can be seen from the distribution of marine animals, the influence of the glacial epoch manifested itself in a decrease of temperature even in the tropics.
