AND THE CENTRAL COMMITTEE OF THE CPSU(b)
The Council of Ministers of the USSR and the Central Committee of the CPSU(b) announce with deep sorrow that on January 25, 1951, in Moscow, in the 60th year of his life, after a serious illness, the President of the Academy of Sciences of the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics, Deputy of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR, Chairman of the All-Union Society for the Dissemination of Political and Scientific Knowledge, Editor-in-Chief of the Great Soviet Encyclopedia, twice laureate of the Stalin Prize, Academician Sergey Ivanovich VAVILOV, has died.
In the person of Academician S. I. VAVILOV, the Soviet people have lost a great scientist and an outstanding statesman and public figure.
Academician S. I. VAVILOV devoted all his strength and knowledge to selfless service to the Motherland, to Soviet science, and to the great cause of communism.
